Fellowship Programs

In partnership with our academic affiliates, we support a major education objective for clinical and PhD prepared scholars through fellowship programs and didactic course work.

Health Services Research Fellowship

The HSR fellowship is a two-year mentored fellowship sponsored by VA Health Services Research & Development. We offer tracks for both MD and PhD candidates.

Research focuses:

  • Ensuring Optimal Care Delivery
  • Improving Care Quality
  • Evaluating Programs and Policies
  • Implementing Evidenced Based Innovations
  • Systematically Describing Patient and Provider Health Behavior

VA Quality Scholars Program

The Durham VA Quality Scholars (VAQS) Program is a two-year interdisciplinary fellowship for healthcare professionals that offers applied training in advanced quality improvement, implementation science, and health services research. This fellowship is sponsored by a partnership between VA and Duke University.

The Durham VA Quality Scholars Program is built around three main areas of focus:

  • Quality Improvement Practice
  • Mentored Scholarship
  • Interprofessional Education and Collaboration

National Clinician Scholars Program

The National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP) aims to train nurse and physician researchers to work as leaders and collaborators in communities, healthcare systems, government, foundations, and think tanks in the U.S. and abroad. The Durham VA and Duke University are both partners of this program, providing a breadth of research and clinical experience.
